    Tall stalks of corn rustled in cold breeze, the scent of frost and the rotting remains of the harvest souring the air as riders and their mounts waited at a series of three entrances into a massive corn field.  The outside of the fields were lined with carefully spaced torches, their flickering flames casting eerie shadows over the grass and corn stalks.  The race for that night was to start at midnight, when the full moon reached its peak and would allow the riders and their mounts to just be able to see the routes through the maze.    Three tall mares snorted and stamped the earth, one ear trained on the maze and anything that might b
